Here are my "attempts" at figure drawing and painting. Part of me is a little embarrassed to post the painting, but I made a promise to myself that I would post everything, even the not so great ones! I attended drop-in figure sessions this Tuesday and Wednesday at the Wavepaint Gallery in Ipswich. It was my first time working from a model and my first time painting a figure period. I have seriously been limited to the little blobby figures in my market painting a few posts ago, and the guy on the beach in one of my recent little ones.
I didn't care for the pose for the painting session. I thought it was stiff, and the legs were too straight and awkwardsly posed. And on top of that I had a pole in front of her about mid-shin, so I was never quite able to get the legs right.
Do I sound like I am making excuses? Ok, ok I probably am! But this was a huge step for me, since figures are something I have actively avoided in the past...I need to be less afraid of adding conrast to the colors in the flesh. Practice, practice, practice! Wavepaint will be having figure sessions every week so if you have any interest and live near Ipswich, Ma look them up. http://www.wavepaint.com

You are an artist, plowing ahead with good energy to learn and create. Your figures are a fantastic start to hopefully a long journey exploring the human form. I think you have a lot of raw talent.
It's quite good, Katie,. Doesn't look stiff at all. You're rocking it, fearlessly!
Sure you haven't done this before?? What a fab start! You'll be mastering figures in about 2 weeks! Keep that pace going... I'm way behind.
It's nice to be missed;) Summer was a blur, keeping up with a 5 year old and then fall has been an effort in getting used to new schedules and kindergarten. I've had to be satified just cruising blogs but at least I am taking an evening mixed media/collage class so we'll see how that goes. I will probably start up posting again soon and hopefully painitng as well... have some projects brewing in my head.
such good work here....excellent. I may take you up on your very kind offer and join you at the classes you mentioned! thanks! :)
