Is it Done?

8x8 on gallery wrapped canvas So here is a confession....I tend to overdo things. I can overdo a little wine. I can most definitely overdo a lot of food. Chocolate? Check! No, not chocolate. Those little Jelly Bellys. Better yet the Jelly Belly knock offs I discovered at Rite Aid. You get a HUGE bag for the same price as the teeny tiny brand name bag. I can polish off a lot of those. Shopping? Not so much. Unless it's clearance baby clothes. That I can overdo. But you get the point....I also tend to overdo paintings and I never know when enough is enough. So the question I put to you is.....Is this one done? :-) This painting is from a photo taken on one of our favorite hikes in Maine. We discovered it alone, just my husband and myself. Then brought the kids on another trip. The first time we discovered this walk we were directed there by a local in Bath, Maine. "just go down this dirt road...the road just ends...look for the parting in the trees...hike for a while, etc etc. then you'll find the light house"....At the end of this wonderful hike, the woods opened up to Squirrel Point Lighthouse in Arrowsic on the Kennebec River, complete with abandoned keeper's house, boat house, walkways, and wild blueberries. Boy did we fill up on blueberries! Right up our alley. I am always torn between preserving buildings so they aren't lost, and losing the mysterious "they were just here" feel of stumbling upon a building left in the state it was in the last time someone used it many years ago....Wish you could preserve them AND keep that feel. Somehow keep the shabby exterior, the random things left about, the overgrown grass, but fix everything so it lasts! So, is it done?

Another interesting painting, Katie. I love the wildrose in the foreground. Your use of greens is nice - not an easy feat for many artists. As for being finished, I can only say I like it. As for the jelly beans, I like them too.

Looks done to me... I don't know what more you could possibly do to it. Love the story behind it, but then again I love imagining the past and what things were like in its hay day.

Looks excellent to me ~ Understand about 'overdo' ~ i do the opposite usually 'underdo' ~ rather a tough one to learn ~ So creative ~ hope all is well and you are enjoying the jelly beans ~ I have been over doing on Cadbury Cream Eggs ~ LOL ~ ^_^

I think it's lovely and it looks done to me - but then I am like you - I never know when to stop. I usually put it away for a week, then bring it out later when I can look at it objectively. And lucky for me, I have a fabulous daughter who has a talent for critiquing my paintings, she always knows what it needs. I'll lend her to you!
