Cupcakes in Line

6 x 12 Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Well I missed painting this in time for Karin Jurick's challenge (Different Strokes From Different Folks), but I could not resist painting the photo anyway. If anyone reading this knows me or has followed this blog for a while, you know my penchant for pastries and cupcakes (I mean painting them of course!). Everyone in the challenge (and there were about 150) did amazing work!
The good thing about painting from Karin's photo is that I didn't have to buy the cupcakes and then eat them afterwards. Which inevitably happens unless the kids get to them first!

I really do need help with photographing my paintings. I have gotten a decent printable picture in months. Does anyone have tips or pointers? Time of day, natural light versus incandescent, type of camera. Anything? It's driving me crazy because every time I post, the image I have to use is so different from the actual painting.

I am going to start kicking it up a notch, and try to get back to completing at least one (small) painting a week like I used to. I suppose I will never be able to join the daily painting movement. Maybe they should start a weekly painting movement!

BEAUTIFUL! And for photographing - the deal is to look for indirect light - like outside in the shade or on a bright overcast day. Still, I end up trying to correct it sometimes. Yes, do one painting a week. Try to get little boards - they're easier to complete! You're too talented to stop! I'm still going to email you the instructions, got home too late to send out tonight!

Hi Kaite, What I use is this little light box I made. It's easy to make and you need two of those cheap drafting lights to clamp on a spare table. It gives soft light, no glare. You need the rest of the room fairly dark and of course a tripod for your camera: http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-studio.html I recently made a larger one that I can photograph 12"x12" or so. We have severe winters, can't imagine trying to photograph outdoors! This box will do the trick for you. LOVE THE CUPCAKES!
