New paintings!

6 x 6 oil on canvas panel-Bailey Island, Me Sunset

6x18 oil on gallery wrapped canvas - Beacon Hill Flowers

Finally some new paintings! The flower shop in Beacon Hill is a TERRIBLE picture, and I offer apologies for the makeshift iphone photo. I like this one much better in person, and I'll promise to take a better picture, but I really never will! Well actually this one is REALLY bad and I really like the painting so maybe I will.
Snapped this photo months ago when I was on a field trip with my middle daughter in Boston. I was dying to paint it and had it sketched out on the canvas the day I had the baby. Needless to say I only finished it now!

The top painting is a quick one I did today. I just ordered 36 canvas panels, and I hope to keep up with some quick small paintings to keep me on my toes. I'm also going to start posting sketches, etc. I think I underestimate how interesting and fun it is to look back at quick, unrestrained sketches. Sometimes the little things we don't think anyone will see are the best! Like all the famous artists undiscovered paintings....

Here is a link to a really cool story about a missing painting. Don't you just wish you were one of those people who got to walk into that apartment!

How much of great art is a happy accident. I wonder that all the time. But then I look at a painting by a master (like the ones I saw last week at the Met), and you look up close and you can see the precise, bold, confident strokes..... Hmm I don't know :-)

Katie - I'm so happy you got time to paint! Between the birth and the pitter pattering is a good time to get some painting done! Love the sunset, too - very loose, but right ON! I have a friend who, after her baby, only got to paint for a couple of hours a day (she has pretty much given up sleep), but she's so focused now - her work has advanced in leaps and bounds - it's amazing! Makes me wonder what the heck I'm doing???? xoxox so good to see you happily painting...
