Strawberries and Cream in Grandmother's Flower Garden

10 x 10 Oil on gessoed board -

So I did something typical of me....But I do like doing these vintage fabrics, and after the slump I have been in I just wanted to do something that made me feel good....SInce I was doing something familiar I decided to at least challenge myself with the glass plate...Uggh! The one big problem was I didn't actually have a glass plate, so I had to do it the way I thought it would look by observing other pieces of glass in the house. I am not sure if I got it...I wante to add a still life aspect without losing any of the detail of the fabric underneath and I figured this was the best way. I think I could have distorted the lines more, but maybe I will do another one like this and see if I can improve....I could really use a class on glass, metal, and mixing colors!!!!
Grandmother's FLower Garden is my favorite quilt pattern....I love the graphic quality of these old fabrics too....
Oh I thought of a great use for the middles of all my mats. I always have smaller scraps of matboard, so I gessoed all of them and now I have a supply to paint on!

Katie you are one brave and talented artist - relax! Also on the North Shore there are a couple of great art associations to take other classes with established artists who will encourage you!

You did that glass plate without OBSERVING a glass plate? That's amazing. But here - go to Crate & Barrel and buy one glass plate (or HomeGoods), and just look, look, look at it while you're painting - it's so much easier! This is a very sweet painting, and I really like the strong composition. Keep going! You've got fans!

Katie May, I just discovered your blog. I often look at Jennifer Bellinger's blog and saw your's listed there. I really like your work. It reminds me a little of mine-----except your work is better. I love to paint still lifes and I also collect vintage tablecloths!! Thanks for sharing your vibrant paintings with the world.
