Choate Bridge, Ipswich Ma

10 x10 Oil on Canvas
Still in progress. Now that I am working it takes longer to get a painting done, so I have been posting a lot of "in progress" just to show I am up to something. I actually have a commission next. They make me nervous. The last one I did someone backed out of. But this one should be more fun because she told me to do whatever I wanted. I find it hard to work with someone else's restrictions.

Anyway, as the title says, this is the Choate Bridge in Ipswich. Apparently it is the oldest stone arch bridge in use in the country. Hmmm. We have a lot of that sort of thing around here. I am enjoying this one with the looseness and the color. I was inspired by a painting at the MFA by VanGogh that was done completely with short little brush strokes all different colors and in the same direction. I thought it would be fun and challenging to use the same brush for the whole painting. I did end up blending more than I wanted to. I wanted to get the effect just by placing the paint down. I like using the funky colors too. It's a little unexpected and not a perfect representation.
