Zero, Central Street, Ipswich, Ma

Terrible Glare! I will repost a new picture when it is dry...

I have reworked this piece and this is the newer version....
I have noticed something abou tIpswich. I suspect it is the same in every small town. Every business has several names depending on the time the building first came into your consciousness....This is Stone Soup Cafe. Currently.....That's how I know it because that is what it was when we moved here. A friend was here a couple of days ago and said, "oh it's Five Corners Deli". The building was buit by the family of a lady I work with at the historical society. Then it was the Tyler Building. It was home to her father's department store. It has had many incarnations. As have all the buildings in Ipswich. This is a young building. Ipswich has more homes from the 1600's than any other town in the country. If this corner store from the 19th century has so much to tell, can you imagine what those homes could tell us! If walls could talk!

So considering it didn't seem proper to title this painting by it current name, I decided to just call it "Zero, Central Street". And yes that is the actual address. Zero. How funny!

I am going to work on some smaller pieces from now on. At least for a little. I want to have some things that might actually sell at spring shows.

This is a nice image Katie...and that is one of the things I love about New England...the quirkiness and history of it all!

that's a wonderful post and how I can relate to places that used to be such and such but aren't anymore.

It was so great when you came into my studio and I knew you right away. So cool. You go girl.

Good for you - this is wonderful! You are really challenging yourself, and you are equal to the challenge! What a complicated subject, but you handled it so well, and I love the story going along with it. You go, girl!
