12 x 12 Oil on canvas
Well I don't like how this came out....The little house bothers me. I don't feel that I got detailed enough with it, and it looks to simple. I just didn't have brushes small enough to get at it....I just don't like the whole thing. Which means I will probably wipe it because I don't have many canvases and can never afford to keep something I don't care for....
Hopefully I can do something else today that I am happy to post....

Well you've been productive today. I kind of like the mystical quality it has - I like the red floating on the water too.
I agree with Carin, and each painting we make builds our skill level (I keep telling myself that anyway)! I have a bunch of paintings that I am trying to consider if I want to paint over them or not...I think it's good to hang on to some of them though...I am working on one now that I like that I thought was totally lost...you just never know!
Most of my instructors have said things like "you need to paint acres of canvas", or "miles of canvas". You should read Kevin MacPherson's book "Fill Your Painting With Light And Color" - it's a book many oil painters have on their shelves, and he recommends painting 'A Painting A Day' for 100 days - just a little 6x8 - not striving for detail, just poster-like- of shapes & light - you'll be AMAZED at how much better you paint at #100! Something akin to Duane Keiser (who was the father of the Painting A Day movement on the internet). Don't be discouraged. Try it with the house a little closer in value to the sky and the water (it's a night scene, right?), try with LESS detail on the house, only suggesting the details. Try 'grey-ing down' the water and sky.... try anything - and if it still doesn't speak to you - paint over it! It's just a canvas! I, for one, love your work. And I have a 'graveyard' of 100+ paintings that are on that same fence!(toss or frame?)
THanks everyone!
Actually this was just after sunset...Everything was dark purply except the house which was lit up pinky orange by the last bit of sun reflecting off the white of the house....It was a beautiful photo....Ah well! :-)
