6 x 12 Oil on Canvas
I altered a painting I had done a couple of days ago. While I like the clouds and the sky, I wasn't sure about the rest....So I took a photo I had from Crane Beach last summer, and altered the previous painting. Now I like it way better. It makes me so excited for summer when I can go for walks on the dunes in the morning when noone is there!
While I sometimes feel inclined to fuss and add details, I enjoy the simplicity on this. I think I may keep it!
I have about 4 shows to submit to (as I think I mentioned before) in the next three months. I have NO idea what to submit, and what will appeal to a juror. I have been going over all my paintings from the last 2 months trying to figure it out! ahhhh
I am starting work on a new painting for a commission that I am really excited about. I am not generally super enthusiastic about commissions, but the lady I am doing it for is super nice with a beautiful house, and a great photo that I get to work from. So I am actually excited. And it is a larger piece which will be fun...Her name is Suzanne and she has a really cool blog. You should check it out. She is one of my followers!
I had a wonderful day today..Super lazy morning, then went shopping for some desperately needed clothing (I love fashion and looking good, but HATE the shopping part.) Went roller blading with hubby. Our second date was roller blading and he actually bought me roller blades that day. The second time I went roller blading I broke my tailbone (literally), so this was a big step to go today. Especially considering the tailbone still hurts sometimes 2 years after the fact...Then yummy dinner out, and home to relax...Whew I needed an uplifting day...I think I am on track to painting happily again, and patiently waiting for spring.
I realized the other day that since I am so sad in the winter, I literally spend half my life wishing it away! Ugh what a thought! And the other half I savor!!!!

I don't know why but when I first saw this painting on your blog I though it was much bigger. I like it and I thought, it might be kind of cool to make a couple of views that are large to be hung together...or maybe not...just popped into my head. I know what you mean about winter...although I love the beauty of winter and appreciate being warm and comfy indoors while it's cold outside, I'll take summer any day. Hang in there...it's coming!
This is such a nice painting, Katie, and I love the format, too. Don't wish your life away! I am right with you in trying to decide what to submit to those juried shows. Having 'run' the paintings for the jurors in one show, I am convinced it's a 'crap shoot' - some things that got in I was like ".... really?" and some things that DIDn't get in was so cool. Who knows? Sounds like you had a nice day - isn't that great?
I'm not the happiest in the winter myself - I am SO ready for Spring... and the shore! Simple works in this one... one can imagine being barefoot on warm sand. Good luck on your show paintings. Maybe committing to 4 up front is the problem. Commit to one, let it be your focus & let yourself off the hook for the others, and I'll bet you end up entering more than one if not all four.
