20 x 20 Oil on canvas
So here is my latest with a little more work...I was trying to be alittle daring by adding so many patterns with the stripes. Howver I think I just made one big mess! It is at times like this that I feel that although I may be able to paint objects technically I may not have the vision to be an actual artist.
Then it seems inevitable that after I feel like that for a couple of weeks, I paint something I am really proud of and think, ok maybe I have something!
Where I live I am surrounded by so many inspiring, wonderful, professional artists!
While it is wonderful, it is also a little intimidating! I find my work so different. Childish? I hope not....

At my art show a couple of weeks ago a woman walked in and actually asked if my work was the local elementary kids stuff....Uggh what a blow! I sheepishly had to admit that it was mine..Awkward!
Day by day, right!

Yes Katie, Day by Day. And , Day by Day , we all have watched you grow.
The feelings that you are having are real. And yes, even the "most amazing artists" in the world, who ever that is, feels what you are feeling.
I guess the point is,is there is no , "most amazing artist" in the world.
Being an artist is as much about who you are & what you feel, how you see things, as it is what you do.
Your need to put all of these things into your work is what makes you an artist.
And, you are doing wonderfully.
Be very proud of your accomplishments.
You have challenged yourself.
Sometimes it is good to set a piece aside and work on something else for awhile.
That does not mean that you have given up on it.It just means you are giving it a rest.
Cheer up lady. I love your art.

Katie, I love the mix of patterns. AND you work is far from childish. It is joyful, exuberant, full of energy. I know how you feel, though. I have periods of discouragement, too. Just keep showing up at the easel and doing the work.
Katie May - you've been painting less than a year - give yourself a little break!!!! Your work - so far - is joyful and exuberant :) Just like YOU! You're probably looking at people who have been painting for years - that's not fair to you. You are always looking forward and your work has great energy. Every day we learn. All of us. Every day we grow. Or why even get up? Keep painting. Stay happy. Ignore people who try to put you down! You GO girl!
Strike that thought about not being having the vision to be an actual artist. I love your style... youthful and vibrant... not at all to beconfused with childish. Obviously that person doesn't understand that art is about a visual "experience"... not a set of rules that deems one a mature artist. Keep on painting and be true to "your" style and what you like to paint. By the way, I was marvelling at this piece thinking you did an excellent job with the pattern and color and was surprised to read you didn't feel the same. Don't let that inner critic tear you down.
